Cannery - la perle des Dieux
The Sardine from the canning factory Perle des Dieux, an unavoidable in Saint Gilles Croix de Vie
L'Atelier de la Sardine offers a captivating dive into the history and craftsmanship of the last Vendée cannery, through an interactive tour of its museum.
In 1903, Eugène Gendreau, the great-grandfather of the current manager, Philippe Gendreau, took over a small sardine “confectionery” established in 1856 in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie.
There he discovered the specialty of the place, an ancient recipe for preparing sardines, the key to its success.
The Gendreau cannery - the Pearl of the Gods is the oldest cannery in Vendée. It offers a wide range of seafood products.
